Construction Impact Assessments

The problem:

  • Construction processes can place severe, even fatal, stress on trees.
  • Construction injury cannot always be repaired, but it can often be prevented.

The solution:
Construction can cause above-ground damage (compacted soil, injury to trunk and/or crown) and below-ground damage (severed and/or smothered roots). A consulting arborist can help develop plans that will minimize damage to trees. If construction has already occurred, the arborist can also help mitigate any damage.

From the International Society of Arboriculture:
"Many construction procedures can be devastating to surrounding trees if no measures have been taken to protect them," says Skiera [Executive Director of the International Society of Arboriculture]. "Visible injuries are most recognizable, but it is damage to the root systems that often results in tree loss." Planning can minimize some of these more common tree damage problems.
