Correct pruning is one of the best investments a home owner and community can make to ensure the health and increase the life of their trees. Pruning should be done with a understanding of how the tree responds to each cut. Incorrect pruning can damage and even kill valuable trees.
Healthy trees have both a financial and environmental significance. They are able to increase the value of your property as well as provide energy savings and air quality benefits for home and business owners. We are environmentally responsible and recommend removals only out of necessity.
Our certified Arborists and highly trained climbing arborists are available for all your tree pruning needs throughout St. Louis and the surrounding areas.

STRUCTURAL STABILITY & RISK ASSESSMENTS
Older trees in our urban forest eventually become vulnerable to wood decay organisms such as rot fungi. Many of these older trees fall apart before they show symptoms of decline. Evaluating the risk for tree failure is difficult considering all of the interacting variables. To assess whether the tree has a high possible risk for failure the tree is examined, studying defects that contribute to structural weakening or failure, and estimating the risk for failure. Vitalitree Urban Tree Care offers certified Arborists trained in identifying symptoms of decay and other structural defects affecting the critical structural components of a tree.

Insects and disease can threaten tree health. As soon as you notice any abnormality in your tree’s appearance, a careful examination should be made of the problem by a certified Arborist. Trees in urban areas depend on our help and care. However, there are preventative measures that home and property owners can take to help their trees be stronger and more resistant to injury and premature death. A certified Arborist trained in insect and disease diagnostics and management is much like your doctor, they are experts in recognizing issues that can affect tree health and offer advice and services to mitigate or remedy a problem before it becomes life threatening to your tree using the latest scientific tree care technologies and the most effective environmentally friendly treatments available.
INSECT & DISEASE MANAGEMENT
EMERALD ASH BORER PREVENTION
For property owners choosing to treat their Ash trees, there are several treatment options available - one of the most effective involves a "closed system" approach where a systemic compound is carefully injected directly into the tree's vascular transport system by a knowledgeable certified Arborist. Because the chemical is contained within the tree, there is no exposure to people and pets like you would find from chemical sprays. Vitalitree Urban Tree Care uses the only product proven by the latest research to be able to prevent/control Emerald Ash Borer for up to two years.
Contact us for a free evaluation of your Ash trees and we will be happy to provide you with recommendations to keep your trees in the best health possible.
Unfortunately for our trees in cities, the natural conditions of the forest, which encourage healthy tree growth, are rarely present in our landscapes. Trees in the urban landscape don’t always get the water, nutrients and aeration required. Many factors combine to put stress on our trees, including construction activities, paving, digging, grade changes, and so on. Just like us, when run down and tired trees are much more susceptible to sickness. Research shows that trees in our urban forest will be healthier when fertilized properly, along with aeration and proper watering. Fertilizing is a critical step in rebuilding root systems and replenishing energy reserves. Its main purpose is not to create bigger, faster growing trees, but rather healthier, more vigorous trees.
We offer a sub-surface fertilization treatment in late fall and again in early spring. This sub-surface soil injection treatment is a special mix of a liquid fertilizer that releases its nutrients over a two-year period. It will not burn plant roots. It is organically based and has very low leach potential. We combine this with a mix of a beneficial fungal innoculant and organic biostimulants and micro-nutrients like Iron. This treatment will promote healthier root-mass, increasing uptake of essential nutrients and water, increasing overall vitality of trees. Increased nutrient availability greatly influences resource allocation of trees, which in turn affects their growth, pest resistance and stress tolerance.
If you have concerns about your trees or shrubs and want to give your landscape the best opportunity to flourish, give us a call. We are available for consultations (with or without an appointment) and can provide proactive or remedial treatments.
In 2008 the first positive finding of this invasive pest was confirmed in Wayne county, Missouri. Since then it has been confirmed in many other counties including St. Louis county in 2015. Ash trees are a common tree in our urban areas; they make up a significant portion of the city's canopy just in the St Louis area alone.
Various research universities have helped to develop very effective, environmentally sound treatment protocols that can protect healthy Ash trees from the Emerald Ash Borer, helping to leave healthy canopies in the urban forest intact. Research is supporting the conservation and treatment of healthy Ash trees in the urban setting as being more economical and environmentally sound than removal.
